The following is a list of holidays celebrated in Brazil. There may be additional state holidays not on this list. Check local newspapers and school calendars for these dates. There are two holidays, Tiradentes and Corpus Christi, which are celebrated on the Monday of the week in which they fall. Please note that the U.S. Consulate closes for both Brazilian and U.S. -celebrated holidays.

Confraternização Universal - New Year’s Day - January 1

Carnaval - Carnaval - 4 days before Ash Wednesday

Paixão - Good Friday - 2 days before Easter Sunday

Páscoa - Easter Sunday - approximately 6 weeks after Ash Wednesday

Tiradentes - Tiradentes - April 21

Dia do Trabalho - Labor Day - May 1

Dia das Mães - Mother’s Day - Second Sunday in May

Corpus Christi - Corpus Christi - 60 days after Easter

Dia dos Namorados - Valentine’s Day* -  June 12

Dia dos Pais - Father’s Day - Second Sunday in August

Dia da Independência - Independence Day - September 7

Dia das Crianças - Children’s Day - October 12

Finados - All Soul’s Day - November 2

Proclamação da República - Proclamation of the Republic - November 15

Natal - Christmas - December 25

*All services, stores, banks and public activities keep their normal hours.
