The following is a list of holidays celebrated in Brazil. There may be additional state
holidays not on this list. Check local newspapers and school calendars for these dates.
There are two holidays, Tiradentes and Corpus Christi, which are celebrated on the Monday
of the week in which they fall. Please note that the U.S. Consulate closes for both
Brazilian and U.S. -celebrated holidays.
Confraternização Universal - New Years Day - January 1
Carnaval - Carnaval - 4 days before Ash Wednesday
Paixão - Good Friday - 2 days before Easter Sunday
Páscoa - Easter Sunday - approximately 6 weeks after Ash Wednesday
Tiradentes - Tiradentes - April 21
Dia do Trabalho - Labor Day - May 1
Dia das Mães - Mothers Day - Second Sunday in May
Corpus Christi - Corpus Christi - 60 days after Easter
Dia dos Namorados - Valentines Day* - June 12
Dia dos Pais - Fathers Day - Second Sunday in August
Dia da Independência - Independence Day - September 7
Dia das Crianças - Childrens Day - October 12
Finados - All Souls Day - November 2
Proclamação da República - Proclamation of the Republic - November 15
Natal - Christmas - December 25
