Use of any NASA provided flux tower requires a tower climbing certification course. The only region that has NASA supplied towers is Santarém. The tower course can be taken upon arrival.

We encourage all flux tower climbing LBA participants to receive tower climbing and safety instruction, but LBA-ECO only teaches it in Santarém. Certification needs to be renewed after two years.

Please remember to indicate on your STI if any member of your team plans to work on a flux tower and needs the certification training. The Site Coordinator will then contact you to make training arrangements.

NOTE: Use of walk-up towers do not require a tower climbing course - only common sense and a hard hat.
