  • Detailed analysis of deforestation patterns now part of PROAMBIENTE initiative in Acre

    A new Brazilian government program, PROAMBIENTE, is designed to pay small rural producers for maintainence of environmental services, chief among them forest cover. The LC-02 program of validation of deforestation estimates has now been expanded to include capacity building for local professionals and grass-roots leaders to measure forest cover in individual properties. This first analysis has been published in Saraiva et al. (2005).
