Internship and Exchange Programs

1999

  • Visit of NCAR investigator to IPEN

In May, 1999, Dr. James Greenberg, from the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), visited the laboratory supervised by Dr. Luciana Vanni-Gatti (IPEN). The objective of the visit was to help with the installation of a new gas chromatograph, and to incorporate a preconcentration/inlet system which he had designed and built. Dr. Greenberg also trained IPEN personnel in the operation of the inlet system, enabling them to analyze low concentration atmospheric samples.

On-Site Training of South American Participants

2002

  • In April, 2001, Williams Martins, a student at UFPA (Santarém) was hired as part of the LBA bolsa program. He assisted this team in the April and June 2001 field campaigns, receiving extensive training atmospheric issues and field data collection techniques.

Short Courses / Seminars / Workshops / Conferences

2002

  • Outlining our LBA research

Lecture presented to researchers and personnel at the Estação Cientifica Ferreira Penna in FLONA Caxiuaná by Dr. Peter Campbell Harley (National Center for Atmospheric Research - NCAR)

Training of South American Participants in U.S.

2002

  • Perola de Castro Vasconcellos, a student from USP, spent six months as a post-doctoral visitor at the NCAR laboratory in Boulder, CO, receiving training in gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. Although this training was prior to our receiving LBA-Ecology funding, Dr. Vasconcellos subsequently participated in two of our LBA field campaigns (LBA-CLAIRE and LBA-Ecology) receiving additional training in field data collection techniques.
