2003  

  • Presentations on environmental conservation and hands-on activities engaging elementary school students

    Dr. Ted Feldpausch (Cornell University) presented several talks to elementary school at the community center in Jurena, MT. Presentations focused on environmental conservation and activities developed in the Rohden managed forest and at the settlement Vale do Amanhacer. Students were engaged in hands-on activities organized in conjunction with Pro-nature, Juruena Prefeitura, and local schools. Participants planted trees in the new city park, partially destroyed by illegal fire.

    Dr. Mark S. Johnson, from Cornell University, coordinated with LBA participants at the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) the organization of educational materials addressing carbon and nutrient fluxes for distribution to students and lay public during this event.
