2004  

  • Researchers from INPE visited the University of Maryland at College Park

    Liana Anderson and Fernando Del Bon Espirito Santo received training at the University of Maryland's lab facilities in October 2004.

2003  

  • Seminar and planning session in collaboration with WWF-Brasil, WWF Paraguay, and Conservation International

    The goal of this seminar was to identify common mapping goals, develop protocols for regional ground-truthing efforts, and explore the use of MODIS data for conservation-related monitoring. The seminar was held in November 30th, in Brasilia, Brazil.

2004  

  • Seminar at INPE - Training of Brazilian Students

    Liana Anderson and Fernando Del Bon Espirito-Santo, Brazilian doctorate students, were sponsored by the US group to participate in two training workshops in Cachoeira Paulista at INPE/CPTEC and in Caxuanã, Pará, Brazil.

  • Presentation at WWF-Brasil

    Douglas Morton (UMd/NASA) presented results of deforestation and agricultural mapping to scientists at WWF-Brasil in Brasilia, Brazil.

  • Measuring Change: Monitoring Tropical Deforestation with Satellite DataR

    Seminar presented by DeFries at the World Bank Latin America Region Environment Seminar.

  • Changing Dynamics of Deforestation in Mato Grosso

    Lecture presented by Douglas Morton (UMd/NASA) at the 2004 AGU meeting held in San Francisco, USA.

  • Physical Landscape Correlates of the Expansion of Mechanized Agriculture in Mato Grosso, Brazil.

    Masters project completed by Ellen Jasinski under the supervision of Dr. Ruth DeFries, professor in the Department of Geography, at the University of Maryland, College Park.
