Dataset Abstract:

Data sets collected over the FLONA Tapajos and the Brasilia National Park aiming at the MODIS Vegetation Index Products Validation; Data collected at these two sites refer to airborne spectroradiometric data, and simultaneously acquired ground biophysical parameters;
Based on these datasets, we are evaluating the MODIS VI\'s behaviour and performance for discriminating major land-cover types over the Brazilian Cerrado, as well as to assess on going land conversions on both regions (i.e., Amazon and Cerrado Regions). In addition, these datasets have been analyzed in conjuction with data acquired at the other MODLAND Core Sites (e.g., La Jornada Experimental Ranch, New Mexico; Konza Prairie, Kansas, etc).
Preliminary results have been published at the IGARSS 2000 (Hawaii, July 2000), and at the First LBA Scientific Conference (Belem, June 2000). Data over the Brasilia National Park was acquired from April 16 through May 6, as well as from July 17 through July 20;
Data over the FLONA Tapajos was acquired from July 1 through July 16
Data Quality Statement: The Data Center has determined that this data set has missing or incomplete data, metadata, or other documentation resulting in diminished usability of this product. User beware.
Known Problems: This data collection represents a vast amount of data. However little documentation or metadata was provided to enable the archive team to organize and properly document this data for long-term archive.
