Dataset Abstract:

In our LBA project, we have begun to organize a multi-sensor/multi-resolution image database for key LBA study sites in Amazon basin. These sites play an important role in quantifying carbon and water fluxes between ecosystems and the atmosphere at several locations spanning gradients in climate, ecosystem type and land use. In addition, they are often the focus of supplemental ground-based field research.
The database is currently composed of IKONOS, Landsat, MODIS and MISR images. We plan to have at least one Landsat 7 ETM+ image for each site that has IKONOS image, and use the ETM+ image as the master image for co-registration with MODIS and MISR images as well as historical Landsat MSS/TM images. The database can be used to address many scientific issues for the LBA program. For example, it can be used for calibration and validation of sub-pixel fractional mapping of major land cover types (e.g., mature forest, secondary forest, cropland, pasture, water) in the Amazon Basin, when using multi-temporal MODIS data and spectral mixture analyses. The database can also be used to support the planning and implementation of field sampling and surveys in these LBA study sites.
