Dataset Abstract:

Root phenology measured with rhizotrons to 2 meters depth, rainfall exclusion experiment, Tapajos National Forest (LBA): This dataset describes root phenology to 2 m depth from deep soil pits in the control and treatemnt plots. Average numbers of root contacts per 100 cm of rhizotron tube length are summarized by color and depth interval on a monthly basis. These data come from a rainfall exclusion experiment being implemented in the Tapajos National Forest, Santarem, PA, Brazil. Two one hectare plots have been established to monitor the effects of water stress on the forest. Following a one year intercalibration period plastic panels were installed in the understory of the treatment to exclude rainfall during the rainy season. These data were collected in August of 1999, prior to panel installation.
